Key & Lock Shop

The Key Shop is responsible for issuing, cutting, assigning, and tracking keys for the FSU campus. We are a full-service Locksmith Shop that generates replacement keys for file cabinets, desks and other locking devices.

The window will be open for key issuance from 1 P.M. - 4 P.M.

Keep in mind that the FSUPD has the primary responsibility for campus security. As the Key Shop is not a security entity, it cannot approve access to any group or individual to any campus building. If you need after hours access to a building, you must contact the FSUPD.

Lock out / Building or Room Access

Normal Business Hours

  • Faculty/Staff (with issued keys)
    • Locked out of a space – Contact FSUPD
    • Key needs to be replaced? – Contact Building Key Manager. Key Shop will replace keys during regular business hours.

Students who have forgotten items in a class room will need to contact Classroom Support or FSUPD to unlock the door.

Contractors/Vendors who need access to locked spaces will need to contact Facilities to unlock the door.

There are no afterhours lock out services offered by Facilities.

After 4:30 pm, any Faculty, Staff, or Students locked out needs to contact FSUPD.

If the space access request is time sensitive, or after the Key Shop has closed for the day, the requestor should contact FSUPD directly

    After Normal Business Hours

FSU Facilities provides emergency assistance M-Th from 4 pm – 11pm for cases where the FSUPD does not possess the correct key to enter a space.

Due to security reasons, FSUPD is the primary service for lock outs, building access, or room access on weekends or holidays. Consider a scenario where the person requesting to be let in, was recently terminated from their position, and shouldn’t be granted access. Another example could be someone with criminal intent that is attempting to get building access. As FSUPD is responsible for campus security, they are the only party that can verify the purpose of access after normal business hours.

Any requests for lost or forgotten keys be reported to FSUPD and wait until The Key Shop’s regular business hours for replacement.

    Key Request

Before requesting any keys on FSU Campus, we recommend you take a moment to review the Florida State University Key Security Policy to ensure you are fully aware of all the guidelines and responsibilities associated with it. Click here to view the policy.

    Request A Key

    Contractor Services

The Key Shop sets up new key systems for new and renovated buildings. In addition, we also provide limited building access to contractors during the construction phase or when a building needs to be serviced.

All contractors will need to apply for and receive their contractor FSU card prior to any key issuance.

    Securing Campus Facilities

FSUPD is responsible for campus security. If an external door is determined to be not secure, contact FSUPD. FSUPD will keep the area secure until the door can be fixed. If FSUPD deems the situation an emergency, FSU Facilities Maintenance will respond to the call.

Doors that are not locking cannot be secured in any way that would affect the safety of the exit. Instead the door must be fixed to function correctly. In this instance there may be parts that need to be ordered resulting in the fix not being able to be completed immediately. In such a case, the responsibility of keeping the area secure in the interim will fall to FSUPD.
