With the opening of Florida State University's Aero-Propulsion, Mechatronics, and Energy (AME) Center in 2014, a sparkling aluminum and plexiglass sculpture was unveiled, suspended on aircraft cable above the foyer atrium. Its form visually comments on the notions of turbines, turbulence, vortex, and air movement.
Master Craftsman Studio's 'Convergence' comprises dichroic acrylic, an aluminum central spine, and stainless-steel cables. The dichroic acrylic adds a sense of movement and color to the sculpture, casting different colors in various directions depending on the light. The three dichroic rings represent the three components of study at the facility: aero-propulsion, mechatronics, and energy.
