The Pipe Shop provides various essential services to maintain safe and efficient water systems on campus, including domestic water systems that provide drinking water access. Additionally, the Pipe Shop is responsible for the upkeep of chilled and heating water systems, heat exchangers, and pumps to maintain comfortable temperatures in classrooms, residence halls, offices, and other campus buildings.
Preventing flooding is a significant responsibility of the Pipe Shop. They perform essential maintenance, including clearing sewer lines to prevent blockages and backups. Through routine checks, the shop also prevents leaks in high and low-pressure distribution systems, conserving water and reducing waste. When necessary, they provide timely replacement of pipes and other infrastructure and assist in identifying underground utilities for special projects.
