The Electric Shop is responsible for building renovations and general maintenance on motors, pumps, generators, inside and outside lights, and electrical panels, and maintaining high voltage on campus. They also support the blue-light emergency phone system, utility support poles, and access phones. The shop performs regular diagnostics and repairs of electrical components necessary to keep these systems running, such as switches, outlets, circuit breakers, and wiring, ensuring safe and reliable electrical connections. The electric shop is also crucial for ensuring generators function properly for power outages or emergencies.
Additionally, the electric shop provides essential testing using specialized equipment to ensure electrical equipment's safety, functionality, and compliance. This includes insulation resistance, earth ground, continuity, load, functional, dielectric strength, and safety testing. By identifying potential issues before they become severe problems, they ensure the safety and reliability of the campus's electrical infrastructure.
