Winter Break Outages and Closures

University Centers A, B, C, and D

University Center will undergo domestic water, chilled water, and heating hot water outages during winter break as a part of ongoing facility improvements.

• Domestic Water Outage: Tuesday, December 26, through Sunday, December 31 –University Centers A, B, C, and D
  Outages will occur in all University Center facilities though an extended outage during this timeframe is expected for University Center C due to the rerouting of existing piping.
• Chilled Water Outage: Tuesday, January 2, through Sunday, January 7 - University Centers A, B, C, and D
  Rerouting existing piping on the westside concourse.
• Heating Hot Water Outage: Tuesday, January 2, through Sunday, January 7 - University Centers A, B, and C

Dirac Science Library

The Dirac Science Library facility will be closed to the public, including building staff, from Monday, December 18 through Tuesday, January 3 for capital improvements associated with the building including entry/exit turnstile gate improvements. Wescott Fountain

On Sunday, December 17, 2023, construction activities including turf and drainage improvements will begin at Wescott Fountain. Crews will drain the fountain on December 17 and erect a construction fence on Monday, December 18. Facilities’ Planning, Design and Construction anticipate project completion on or before January 23, 2024. IRCB and Levy Avenue

Due to the installation of underground utilities beneath Levy Avenue associated with the IRCB project, Levy Avenue will be closed beginning Monday, December 18, 2023.

Engineering Way will be closed at the intersection with Levy Avenue. Traffic on Levy Avenue will be directed around the closure via Iamonia Street, Roberts Avenue, and Paul Dirac Drive. Local traffic only will be permitted beyond the barriers at the intersections of Iamonia Street and Levy Avenue as well as at Levy Avenue and Paul Dirac Drive.

The project is planned to be completed by Friday, December 29, but could be delayed due to unforeseen conditions. Access to all parking lots will remain open. See the diagram below for the traffic pattern during the closure. Please avoid the area if possible.

Central Utilities Plant

Monday and Tuesday, December 18 - 19, 2023, FSU’s Central Utilities Plant (CUP), located at 990 Learning Way, will be firing the boilers on fuel oil at around 9 a.m.. This routine process aims to ensure that the boilers are in good working condition during the winter. Note: During this time, black smoke may be visible for a few minutes.
