Ragans Hall Lobby Updates

01/25/2024

Ragans Residence Hall is an apartment-style dorm on the west of campus comprised of four buildings with a shared lobby. Facilities Design recently completed updated finishes to the lobby, including flooring, carpet, and paint. The Ragan lobby experiences heavy traffic as it is occupied year-round and serves as a contact point for residents and staff.

Ragans Hall was renamed in 2006 in honor of Sherill Williams Ragans, a former residence counselor and housing director. The lobby design features a collage centered on a previously crowded wall, highlighting the hall's namesake.

Facilities Design selected finishes for the building with longevity in mind. The durable materials can withstand the high activity level the lobby experiences as the building's activity hub. Luxury vinyl tile provides a durable and easily cleanable finish option for flooring and is contrasted by a darker carpet tile, reducing noise in the space. The meeting point of the tile and carpet in the lobby is arranged in an angular pattern that draws users' attention toward the help desk. The focal wall covering and vinyl tile also showcase an abstracted angular pattern reminiscent of Florida State's iconic spear. The hall's neutral palette, with subtle pops of gold, creates a welcoming environment for the students and visitors.
