On the Path to Rebuilding After May’s Tornado Outbreak
10/28/2024
A pair of EF-2 tornados impacted Florida State's Main and Southwest campuses on Friday, May 10, 2024, a day of historic tornadic activity in the Tallahassee region. FSU Environmental Health & Safety and Planning, Design & Construction representatives, including Insurance Manager Laymon Gray and Project Manager Jose Morales, collaborated with FEMA representatives and project contractors to inspect storm damage from the tornado.
The group toured and inspected several vital areas impacted by the tornados, including the University Center, National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and FSU Rec Sportsplex. Their assessments confirmed the extent of the damages and provided information for determining the university's eligibility for reimbursement of the incurred costs. This joint collaborative effort emphasizes FSU's resilience and dedication to rebuilding the campus after the severe weather event.
