Defying Gravity and Celebrating Innovation: Master Craftsman Studio's Levitating Sculpture
03/06/2025
An innovative public art built by artists from Master Craftsman Studio with guidance from the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory celebrates the partnership between FSU and the City of Tallahassee. Affectionately nicknamed "Maggie," the stunning floating sculpture is a significant addition to the City's bicentennial celebration and further establishes Tallahassee as the Magnetic Capital of the World.
Master Craftsman Studio, an auxiliary of FSU Facilities, has played a pivotal role in creating this unique sculpture. They designed the structure's base and levitating component, which displays the letters "TLH" and "FSU" as it rotates in midair. The statue was revealed on February 19, 2025, at the City's inaugural hosting of the Motor, Drive Systems and Magnetics Conference at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center and is considered the largest magnetic levitating sculpture in the world.
