Ceremonial Evergreen Placed at Legacy Hall

04/10/2024

A pine tree was raised on the roof of Legacy Hall during its "Topping Out" ceremony, marking the completion of the building's structural phase. The pine is known as a "Topping Tree," indicating the celebratory nature of the building structure reaching its final height. For builders, the evergreen holds a profound symbolism. It is a testament to the safety and care taken and a beacon of good luck and prosperity for future occupants.

Topping Out celebrations have their roots in ancient superstitions. The first evidence of builders hoisting trees atop buildings was in 700 A.D. in Scandinavia when such an act signaled that a completion party was about to begin. When the needles fell off, builders knew that their new timber structures had dried sufficiently to allow for the next phase of construction. Planning, Design & Construction looks forward to Florida State University College of Business advancing to the next phase of construction at Legacy Hall!
