Preventive maintenance plays a vital role in keeping FSU running smoothly behind the scenes. By proactively inspecting and servicing equipment and systems, this team helps prevent costly breakdowns, ensures campus safety, and keeps classrooms, labs, and facilities operating at their best before issues arise.

Brian Steiner has been at the university for two years and has excelled in his role as the Preventive Maintenance 2 (PM2) Lead Tech at FSU Facilities, a position he assumed during his tenure. Before joining FSU, Steiner built hands-on experience in small equipment maintenance, automotive dent repair, and a range of home improvement projects. He is also a certified dent repair specialist.

In his current role, Steiner leads a dedicated team responsible for maintaining over 3,000 pieces of equipment across campus. His daily responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, exhaust fans, laboratory exhaust fans (LEFs), fan coil units (FCUs), emergency blue light systems, and more. When asked about his favorite part of working at Facilities, Steiner quickly points to the team, expressing his appreciation for the people he works alongside.

“Brian is a major part of the PM2 Team. He has been with the team since FSU started the program, and I can always count on Brian to finish the job with professionalism and in a safe and timely manner. Brian cares for the team and will do anything to help anyone. He is an awesome employee and a great benefit to FSU Facilities,” said Mike Ochat, Preventative Maintenace Supervisor.

Outside of work, Steiner enjoys tackling personal projects and traveling. Family is very important to him as he treasures time spent with his young son and friends, and his cat, Smokie.
