Building Excellence: Ryan Porter
08/20/2024
Facilities Maintenance provides world-class maintenance, repair, and construction services to the Florida State University community. On July 12th, Ryan Porter transitioned from his role as Preventative Maintenance Coordinator to Assistant Director of Maintenance Planning. In both roles, Porter has been essential in coordinating the preventative maintenance programs and teams for FSU’s Main and Southwest campuses.
Porter has spent the last 13 years working at FSU, beginning as a Maintenance Zone Plumber in 2011, before becoming a Maintenance Zone Supervisor, and then finally moving into his two most recent roles. Before working at FSU, he worked at two local plumbing companies where he mainly worked on plumbing renovations and new buildings of commercial properties, including projects at FSU. Additionally, Porter holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Flager College and is a State of Florida Certified Plumbing Contractor.
“I have known Ryan since he became a supervisor back in 2015. Ryan has always gone above and beyond to do what is best for Florida State University Facilities Department and has finally been recognized with a promotion the same day as he was submitted for this recognition. He is a great asset to FSU,” said Daniel Price, Maintenance Supervisor.
An average workday for Porter isn’t necessarily “average”, as he notes that every day looks different and there is always something new. Some of his regular responsibilities include preventative maintenance of HVAC equipment, Blue Lights, and the Tom Project AEDs. He states that his favorite part about working with FSU Facilities is the people he works with and the ability to provide the best environment at a top-rated university.
“Ryan is dedicated, dependable and has an incredibly strong work ethic,” said Chad Cooper, Assistant Director of Facilities Maintenance.
Outside of work, Porter enjoys anything that involves spending time with family. He is incredibly thankful for his amazing wife of 17 years and proud of the work she is conducting with the Florida Palm project designing the new accounting program for the state. He is also proud of his two children, his 14-year-old daughter starting her journey in high school who happens to be an avid Swifty, and his 8-year-old son who loves sports and gaming. As a family of Disney annual pass holders, they love to visit the theme parks together and try to go once a month, even if it’s a day trip. Porter notes that both of his kids could be tour guides of the parks as they know so many fun little facts that most do not!
