Serving as the Zone C Supervisor for FSU Facilities is a critical role that ensures the university’s buildings and systems on the east side of campus run smoothly, safely, and efficiently for students, faculty, and staff. It requires not only deep technical knowledge but also strong leadership, coordination, and a commitment to service. Robert Lewis excels in this role by combining over two decades of hands-on experience with a passion for mentoring his team and delivering high-quality results. His proactive approach, attention to detail, and dedication to fostering a supportive work environment make him an invaluable asset to the Facilities team and the broader FSU community.

Having been a dedicated member of the FSU community for over 20 years, Lewis began his career as an electrician before progressing to Senior Electrician, Team Lead, and ultimately stepping into a supervisory role in 2018. With decades of experience behind him, Lewis brings both technical expertise and leadership strength to his team.

Before joining FSU, Lewis gained a broad range of professional experience. He worked at McDonald’s for two years, served eight years in the U.S. Navy, and spent 11 years with various companies, gaining valuable hands-on experience across industries. His academic and professional training is equally well-rounded, including a high school diploma, attending college courses, and completing U.S. Military A & C Schools. He has also trained in diesel mechanics, A/C and refrigeration, pumps and motors, generators, and completed multiple supervisor training courses.

In his current role, Lewis is responsible for overseeing a team within a designated geographic zone. He manages preventive maintenance programs, equipment installations, utility system upkeep, and responds to service requests and major repairs. He works closely with university personnel from routine repairs to large-scale Planning, Design & Construction projects. Beyond the technical aspects, Lewis plays a key role in mentoring and training staff, managing scheduling, approving timesheets, and contributing to budget planning and staffing decisions.

Each day, Lewis leads his team to tackle service requests while promoting a safe and efficient environment for students, faculty, and staff. He views every interaction as a learning opportunity, emphasizing professional development and teamwork. Lewis’ approach combines operational leadership with mentorship, always aiming to improve both service quality and team cohesion.

Lewis’ favorite part of working at FSU Facilities is building strong, trust-based relationships with his team. He’s passionate about training and guiding others to grow - both professionally and personally. By cultivating a workplace culture grounded in support, learning, and mutual respect, he empowers his team to thrive and make meaningful contributions.

Outside of work, Lewis values time with his family above all. He is married with four adult children, three grandchildren, and two dogs. Family is the center of his life and his greatest source of inspiration. He also enjoys fishing, playing golf, and sharpening his mind with a good game of chess.
