Keeping Florida State cool, in the literal not figurative sense, is largely thanks to the chill water systems here on campus which work to regulate the internal temperatures of buildings. The Pipe Shop maintains and repairs the steam and chill water systems here on campus, as well as maintaining the stormwater drain systems. As Pipe Shop Supervisor, Danial Hathcock does a standout job in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the FSU pipe shop and handling campus water leaks both in buildings and on the grounds.

Hathcock has worked at FSU for 16 years and was promoted to supervisor in January 2022. Before coming to FSU, he worked across the U.S. as a pipe welder and fitter as a part of the United Association of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union. He also holds an associate in science (AS) degree from Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) and an advanced welding certification from Big Bend Technical College.

“In my brief time at FSU, I have been extremely impressed with the commitment Danial shows to FSU. If there is an issue to be resolved he is the first to offer assistance, and he will see that issue through to its completion,” said Joel Van Ravenswaay, Interim Vice President of Facilities. “Danial's positive attitude and willingness to help anyone or any department makes him an invaluable asset to the entire Facilities organization.”

Outside of work, Hathcock loves to watch FSU sports, especially football and baseball, as well as Major League Baseball where he roots for the Yankees. He and his wife, Brandy, have been married for 14 years come November, and have a beautiful 7-year-old daughter who’s in the 2nd grade. They also have a German short-haired pointer named Jessy. His daughter participates in the East Coast Jr. Rodeo Association, and they spend lots of time with her practicing and preparing to compete. As a family, they also enjoy taking trips to St. George Island.
