Keeping Campus Rolling: Inside FSU Facilities’ Motor Pool
Date - June 11, 2026
FSU’s campus operations rely on hundreds of pieces of equipment working every day behind the scenes — from utility vehicles that help get teams and tools across campus to the mowers that keep green spaces looking their best. Helping keep all that equipment functional is the FSU Facilities Motor Pool.
The Motor Pool supports Facilities teams across campus by handling repairs and maintenance that ensure crews have dependable equipment ready when they need it. Their work becomes especially important during major campus events, urgent responses, and the busy summer growing season.
One team member helping power those operations is Nicholas Griffin, Grounds since 2010 and has become an Auto Mechanic II. Griffin specializes in small-engine repair, working on mowers and UTVs used daily by Grounds & Landscaping crews.
In the warmer months, much of that work is focused on maintaining mowing equipment as Grounds teams work across campus to keep landscapes healthy, safe, and well-maintained throughout the summer.

“Nicholas consistently steps up whenever the need arises to ensure the various Grounds and Facilities teams have the equipment they need during every event FSU has had to respond to. His dedication and support of the Facilities mission have made a lasting impact,” shared Jonathon Stickler, Associate Director of Property and Waste Management.
Whether it’s repairing a mower, troubleshooting equipment issues, or helping crews quickly get back to work, the Motor Pool plays a critical behind-the-scenes role in supporting FSU Facilities’ mission every day.
