Building Excellence: Lorinzo Grant
April 14, 2026
Before most of campus even hits snooze, Lorinzo Grant is already up, at it, and making the Chemistry Building shine.
Grant is a Senior Custodian in the Chemistry Building, working the 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. shift, and this April marks an incredible 16 years with Florida State University. He began his FSU journey as a custodian and, after five years of hard work and consistency, stepped into his current senior role. Over the years, he’s become a trusted leader and steady presence in one of the campus’s busy academic spaces.
Before joining FSU, Grant was self-employed in construction, specializing in drywall installation. He earned his high school diploma in Havana and later completed a trucking certificate, adding even more hands-on experience to his background.
As a Senior Custodian, Grant makes sure everything is cleaned properly and running smoothly. He helps lead his team on special projects, ensures tasks are completed on time, and takes pride in keeping the building looking its best. After 16 years, he describes most days as “smooth sailing,” coming in early, taking care of business, and making sure everything stays on track.
His favorite part of working at FSU? His team. The people he works alongside each day are what make the job meaningful and enjoyable.
Outside of work, Grant enjoys fishing, catching a movie, going out to dinner, and spending quality time with family and friends. He loves attending church on Sundays and being involved in church functions whenever he can. He and his wife have been married for 22 years and are proud parents of four beautiful, independent children who have all graduated from school. He’s thankful for his family and everything they’ve built together.
