Building Excellence: Cartezs Matthews

At Landis Hall, Cartezs Matthews is part of the Building Services team that helps create a clean, welcoming home away from home for students. For the past nine years, he has served as a Custodial Worker at Florida State University, bringing consistency, pride, and a strong work ethic to campus each and every day.
Cartezs’ role centers on maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of Landis Hall’s spaces, ensuring residents can focus on their studies and enjoy their college experience. His days are built on steady, hands-on work and a commitment to doing the job right. He especially enjoys being surrounded by the college atmosphere and the energy that comes with working in a vibrant residence hall community.
Before joining FSU, Cartezs worked as a delivery driver for UPS, where he strengthened the reliability and time management skills that continue to serve him well in Facilities. A high school graduate with years of practical experience, he takes pride in showing up and giving his best every day.
“Mr. Matthews is an outstanding team member; he is very dedicated to his job. Mr. Matthews goes out of his way to make sure needs are met in the Landis Hall. He has great attendance, is very dependable, and willing to come in early as well as stay late. He greets every student that passes his way with a smile. We all would like to let him know how much we appreciate his hard work and dedication,” said Sierra Smith, Landis Hall Facilities Supervisor.
Outside of work, Cartezs enjoys traveling and unwinding with video games. Most importantly, he says his family is amazing!
