Comforts of Home: University Housing Survey Results Indicate High Satisfaction in Housing Facilities
10/15/2025
University Housing at Florida State University participates in the annual Benchworks by Elentra (formerly Skyfactor) survey. This survey provides administrators with a comprehensive evaluation of the Housing program at FSU. Additionally, the survey benchmarks Carnegie class peer institutions, providing rankings amongst colleges and universities nationwide.
Landis Hall, located at the center of campus on Landis Green opposite Strozier Library, was originally built in 1939.
By conducting longitudinal analysis, University Housing can evaluate students' perceptions regarding the cleanliness of public areas, the timeliness of repairs, the performance of the cleaning staff, and their overall impression of different halls and floors from year to year. The survey data will enable Housing and Facilities to collaborate effectively, enhancing services and adjusting priorities to better support student success.
Florida State University's results for 2025 indicate ongoing improvement, with a significant upward trend following the years after the COVID-19 pandemic. Although rankings vary from year to year, the university's housing department has observed an increase in overall satisfaction, positioning us among the top tier of Carnegie Institutions and others across all categories.
Notably, there have been increases in the timeliness of repairs, cleanliness of public areas, and the quality of the cleaning staff. Overall satisfaction has also increased. In examining the data from individual residence halls at FSU, Housing and Facilities found that many older halls consistently received high rankings for cleanliness and the quality of their cleaning staff. This suggests that the age of a building does not necessarily impact the student experience.
Azalea Hall was built in 2017 on the site of the former Deviney and Dorman Halls.
Qualitative data is an equally rich resource as the rankings, and it comes in the form of direct feedback from residents. The comments and sentiments from students reflect the favorable survey rankings. The selected comments below highlight the direct impact the Facilities staff have on the residence life of FSU students:
- Azalea Hall
"Kat from Azalea cleans the 4th floor. She brightens up my day every time I see her. - Bryan Hall
"Probably the maintenance man named Donnie. He has always been nice to me and always seems to be working hard. He helped me get information about where to find things at the beginning of the year, and he is often smiling." - Dorman Hall
"The on-campus housing staff helped maintain a clean area on my floor, which I appreciated, allowing me to focus and excel in my academics in a clean space." - Landis Hall
"Probably the custodians, to be completely honest, being able to come 'home' every day after classes to a nice, clean building is a relaxing feeling. The repair request staff was sent because we had a couple of bathroom issues throughout the year. The custodial staff were very kind, always smiling when I saw them in the mornings. They were also great at keeping the building clean." - Traditions Hall
"Ms. Linda, the janitor of Traditions Hall, has helped me the most this academic year. Ms. Linda always greets me with warm energy, while frequently checking up on how I am doing."
