Performs comprehensive custodial cleaning and maintenance of carpeted, tile, wood, and concrete flooring throughout university facilities. Uses specialized equipment and cleaning products for carpet extraction, floor stripping, sealing, finishing, polishing, and restoration, while maintaining furniture, fixtures, walls, windows, blinds, entrances, and other building surfaces. Cleans and sanitizes public restrooms and water coolers, removes waste, restocks supplies, and maintains custodial equipment while reporting supply and repair needs. Serves as a lead worker when needed by coordinating work assignments and special projects, assisting with inventory and supply distribution, and supporting the Custodial Supervisor with administrative duties.
Responsibilities
- Cleans and maintains carpeted flooring by vacuuming, spot cleaning, or extracting, and using a wet-dry cleaning machine. Vacuums walk-off mats, upholstered furnishings, and fabric patrician furniture. In the absence of the supervisor, this position may oversee work assignments to ensure that all essential duties are completed and performed in accordance with established standards. This position may act as a lead worker and oversee special projects as assigned and assist the Custodial Supervisor with administrative tasks including maintaining inventory and issuing supplies.
- Cleans and maintains tile, wood, and concrete flooring by sweeping, dust mopping, and wet mopping. Applies floor stripper, sealer, finish, and restoration products. Uses automatic floor scrubber, wet vacuum, and buffers and burnishers to strip and maintain floors.
- Dusts and wet cleans horizontal and vertical surfaces including: tables, chairs, counters, desks, bookshelves, sills and ledges, diffusers, vents, walls, elevator tracks, doors, marker and chalk boards, trays, interior glass and windows, venetian blinds, etc.
- Cleans and sanitizes water coolers and public restrooms. Restocks supplies of tissue, towels, and hand soap.
- Empties waste receptacles and removes trash and other debris, excluding hazardous and toxic materials and materials deposited in "SHARP" boxes.
- Cleans and maintains custodial equipment. Reports equipment and supply needs to supervisor. Reports needed repairs, secures property to prevent damage, places caution signs, cleans entrances and other walkways and breezeways, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
