This role focuses on the meticulous upkeep and aesthetic preservation of university grounds through a blend of horticulture, sanitation, and equipment maintenance. The primary duties include comprehensive plant care—such as edging, pruning, and deep-root weeding—alongside landscape logistics like transplanting materials and soil excavation for minor renovations. Beyond plant health, the position is responsible for campus-wide debris management and the application of various mulching materials to ensure a clean, presentable environment. Success in this role requires the safe operation of power tools and a proactive approach to equipment maintenance to ensure all groundskeeping operations remain efficient and safe.

Responsibilities

  • Performs campus groundskeeping tasks such as edging, raking, mulching, power blowing, light pruning, trimming spent blooms and watering plants. Identifies and removes weeds from flowerbeds, gardens, planting areas, and pathways, ensuring the removal of roots to prevent regrowth. This includes hand weeding and the use of tools like hoes or weed pullers. Transplants plant/flower materials, assists with minor landscape renovations, to include soil excavation and removal.
  • Responsible for debris removal, leaf removal, trash pickup and other tasks to keep grounds clean and presentable. Maintains areas by spreading landscape materials such as pine straw, bark, or rocks.
  • Safely operates and maintains grounds equipment to ensure the health and appearance of university grounds. Ensures that all manual and power equipment is in proper working condition and reports maintenance needs to the supervisor. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor or higher authority.
