Building Excellence: Amy Allen
When it comes to protecting campus from unseen risks, Amy Allen brings expertise, energy, and heart to her role as Florida State University’s Radiation Safety Officer. She joined FSU in June 2023, and this summer marks her third year in the position. Before arriving at FSU, Allen built a diverse career across healthcare and higher education, serving as a radiology manager and director, as well as a clinical instructor and professor at a Level 6 academic institution; experience that blends clinical practice, regulatory oversight, and academic instruction.
Allen holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences from Midwestern State University, along with an Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology. She is nationally board certified in radiography, mammography, and bone densitometry and is a certified Clinical Breast Examiner. Her extensive credentials also include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Fluoroscopy certification, Certified Hazmat Employee and Department of Transportation (DOT) Shipper training, and Radiation Safety Officer certification through International Radiation Safety Consulting and Radiation Control Inc.
In her current role, Allen oversees FSU’s Broad Scope Radioactive Materials License, the second largest in the State of Florida, managing all ionizing and non-ionizing radiation-producing devices. Her work focuses on regulatory compliance and protecting students, faculty, staff, and contractors from unnecessary radiation exposure. With no such thing as an “average day,” her fast-paced schedule spans training, audits, emergency response, project oversight, and committee work. What she enjoys most is the people; building strong relationships while serving the university community makes her work both impactful and rewarding.
