Building Code Administration Transitions to GovBuilt Permitting System - Effective August 22
09/15/2025
Update as of September 15, 2025: Inspection requests for any currently active permits will continue to be handled through the existing inspection portal on the EH&S Building Code Inspection Request webpage.
Florida State University's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Building Code Administration (BCA) unit is transitioning from an Access database to the GovBuilt permitting system. GovBuilt is an all-in-one, fully online platform that streamlines the permitting process for FSU project managers, building code administrators, and contractors.
This new system includes an online interface for applications, file sharing, and communication, which automates a process that previously relied on cumbersome paper forms, emails, and an Access Database, transforming it into a transparent, efficient, shared workspace.
FSU project managers will begin by setting up their accounts, and contractors will be added to the GovBuilt system as projects are transferred. The project managers will initiate the online application, which requires project information, contact details, project specifics, contractor information, uploads, and acknowledgment.
Once a project is initiated, contractors can monitor the real-time status of their inspections, update drawings, plans, and documents, leave comments, and schedule inspections. GovBuilt offers a comprehensive solution for tracking permit history, managing pre-filled data, and handling document management. This reduces errors and saves time. At this time, contractors will still receive invoices and pay FSU by check.
The Florida State University BCA is preparing for a soft launch of GovBuilt on Friday, August 22. Training for the BCA team and Planning, Design, and Construction project managers is currently in progress. After the launch date, BCA will focus on transferring existing projects to the new system, followed by historical projects. Starting August 22, all new projects will be submitted, reviewed, and permitted through GovBuilt.
BCA will require the same materials and application details as the previous application system. All uploads must be in PDF format and cannot exceed 1 GB in size. Applicants will no longer use forms from www.safety.fsu.edu; however, email verification for document uploads and submissions will still be conducted. All applications, along with direct messaging for reviews and corrections, will now be hosted on the GovBuilt platform. Additionally, multiple contacts can be assigned to each project.
Recorded trainings and how-tos will be available from GovBuilt for the Florida State University platform. GovBuilt's Client Support is available to users via the GovBuilt Help Center.
