This role provides strategic leadership for Environmental Health & Safety programs by directing the development, review, and implementation of university-wide initiatives and strategic plans. The position oversees audits and inspections to ensure regulatory and policy compliance while promoting continuous improvement in quality and customer service. Serving as the University’s liaison with federal, state, and local authorities, the role supports building code, fire safety, and systems programs, reviews research proposals and laboratory safety programs to ensure life safety compliance, and leads the stewardship of laboratory safety policies. The position also contributes to the design and delivery of training programs and presentations to support institutional and departmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the development, review and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Direct audit and inspections of University entities to ensure compliance with regulations and policy while continually assessing the potential for quality and customer service improvements.
  • Serves as the University liaison with Federal, State, and Local authorities in matters related to EH&S programs. Supports and collaborates on Building Code and Fire Safety/Systems programs.
  • Reviews research proposals to ensure that adequate life safety protections are in place and in compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws. Reviews Lab Safety systems and programs. Stewards University Lab Safety policies.
  • Participate in the design, development and/or presentation of training programs and courses, and other presentations in support of University and departmental mandates and requirements.
