The Waste Management Superintendent at Florida State University provides strategic and hands-on leadership for campus-wide waste removal, recycling, and sanitation operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and sustainable environment. This role oversees daily operations, staffing, equipment, and inspections to meet evolving campus needs while maintaining compliance with university standards. The position also emphasizes workforce development—supervising, training, and evaluating staff to promote safety, accountability, and continuous improvement—while supporting HR processes such as recruitment, onboarding, and performance management. Through operational excellence and team leadership, the role directly supports FSU’s academic, research, and community mission and advances the University’s sustainability goals.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage personnel, equipment, and material resources to ensure efficient waste and recycling operations.
- Provide daily oversight, assign work, and coordinate staffing and equipment to meet evolving campus needs.
- Conduct regular inspections of on- and off-campus properties to evaluate service requirements and ensure compliance with university standards.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate staff to foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Identify training needs and ensure completion of required and developmental programs.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and separation processes in collaboration with Human Resources.
