Planning & Space Management

The Facilities Planning and Space Management Section provides services in four essential areas.

First, in the area of planning, the Section maintains the University's adopted Campus Master Plan and prepares periodic updates for the Main Campus, the Southwest Campus, and the Panama City Campus.

Second, the Section is involved in nearly all aspects of major project development. At the outset of a project, Section staff is responsible for the preparation of the facility program and the capital funding requests necessary for a project's completion. During the design phase, staff assists in the review of construction documents and is also responsible for the assignment of all room numbering. Prior to the completion of the construction phase, Section staff has already begun the process of integrating project details into the University Space Management System (USMS) and the pursuit of operational funds for maintenance and utilities (when appropriate). Key plans are also developed during the construction phase so that building occupants and other interested parties have a graphic representation of the new or remodeled space.

Third, the Facilities Planning and Space Management Section has the responsibility to maintain the Department's archival resources, in both a hard copy and electronic format. Construction documents, training manuals, photographs and other construction-related materials are continually inventoried and placed in the Department's archives.

Fourth, Section staff is responsible for the acquisition and exchange of State owned property, which is purchased, given or leased to the University.

Though these are the primary responsibilities, the staff is also involved in a myriad of other projects and operations, including space analysis, campus wayfinding and signage, planning and transportation studies, and budget requests.
